This week I've got a whole series of headshots lined up for people from a diverse range of backgrounds. This is one of my favorite types of shoots, especially when they want to get out of the studio and work outdoors. It's a little different than the other kinds of shoots because with headshots and portraiture we really get to chatting. Something as simple as conversation is critical because: 1) I'm working with humans, not products. And I need to show their authentic human side. And 2) It gets the client to relax and just be natural, especially with the big light modifier I've got on my setup.
That brings me to the light modifier. I picked up a softbox ring light that works directly off the speedlight and I'm genuinely impressed. I'll do a review of it later but my outdoor portrait kit literally just got streamlined to one hand held setup. I love it!
