One of my favorite things about the DC area is that it's full of opportunities to do 'bucket list' type of things. "Hello Mr. Ambassador" was just checked off that list! We recently worked with TeKay Designs and EXCEL Magazine International to shoot their show at the Liberian Embassy. Truth be told, this wasn't our first fashion shoot, but it was our first time working at an embassy in DC.
The event was fast paced, like all fashion events, and the embassy was such a unique backdrop for an outdoor runway show. We came early and helped work with Kimma Wreh, the fashion designer, to prepare the models for the event. This included critiquing of poses, navigating an outdoor stage (STAIRS!), and reminding everyone to pause when they reach the center of the stage. "Breathe, pause, breathe, turn and walk".
Fashion is really one of our biggest loves. We enjoy working with people and giving direction when necessary. Many times it's in-studio but my favorite is when we pack up all the equipment and get mobile in the streets with a model. This becomes really evident what we cross those skills over into working with brides because hey, any time a woman wears an expensive dress it's a fashion shoot!
We've got a couple of more fashion shoots coming up for designer's Look Books. And come September we're in full blown New York Fashion Week mode. This year we're especially looking forward to finding out more about the DC Fashion Week events and more embassy fashion shows.
I've got a personal list of 'things' and 'places' I want to shoot since there's so much unexplored territory for me around DC. Without getting into a totally different blog post, it's so different that NYC. Not better, not worse, just a completely different city to get immersed in. And that's a great thing for photography!

Have you visited our Wedding Photography Website - OurWeddingCafe.com? We love photography, all sorts of photography. This includes one of the most demanding types of shoots that really allow experienced artistic pros to wow and woo their clients, WEDDINGS. That part of our studio has grown to a turnkey event solution service so it was decided to break it off from BFF Photography as a standalone business so we can showcase all diverse services we can excel at.
There's always something wonderful about working with laid back, cool clients, who are so obviously offbeat but can sing on-key! The venue was stunning, and I don't use that word loosely considering how many couples I've photographed in venues up and down the East coast. Simply OMG that view was surreal.

This morning we went and did a little shoot over at MakeSpace capturing some of the diversity that we see across their community. For those who aren't aware, Muslims come in all colors, shapes, sizes, and attire! We set up and invited people from the 1st prayer to come and take a photo with us which is always fun. We caught a blazing Eye of Mordor Sun so instead of fighting a losing battle with our speedlites, or dragging out the big guns lighting kit, which can be a little intimidating, we just went all natural lighting. Below are some of the images from today.
